A bride escorted down the aisle by a beloved English bulldog…A groom reaching down to accept the ring from the ring bearer, a beautiful Persian cat… The images are so touching and sweet, making this upcoming wedding season even more exciting!

Save the Date!

Many couples opt to send out either an engagement announcement or a save the date card, both showcasing a beautiful photograph. It’s hard to improve on the joy of such a picture, but imagine how adorable your pet would look snuggled in your arms, or posed next to you and your betrothed.

A picture like this not only signals to your prospective guests that you are consummate animal lovers, but it’s made known that your photogenic pet may very well be in attendance at your upcoming nuptials.

Vows to Love

As for brainstorming pet wedding ideas, allow your pet’s distinct personality to navigate how much you integrate him or her into the event. Your pet may make an excellent flower girl, ring bearer, or groomsman, but he or she may just as well take a backseat as a guest of honor.

Of course, his or her level of training and experience with crowds will dictate level of involvement, but know that there isn’t a real guarantee on how your pet will truly react.

Individualized Pet Wedding Ideas

Day to day, your pet may be relaxed and happy, ready to roll with the punches, and good natured to boot. But we think your pet would consider it a favor if you hired a pet sitter or handler for him or her throughout the entire wedding event. You may be otherwise tied up with last minute details or entertaining guests to truly meet all of your pet’s needs, and having someone there just for your pet can make all the difference.

Other Considerations

Long before the big day, however, you should make sure that your venue is hospitable to pets and make sure you discuss any required deposits beforehand.

Likewise, your wedding photographer might be the same one that shot your pet-centric save the date announcement, and already has a unique take on what you expect regarding photographs with your pet. If you have a different vendor for this, iron out the wrinkles beforehand so you aren’t disappointed that there’s only one shot of your pet during the entire wedding.

If your pet is to wear a special outfit, please practice this until he or she appears comfortable and relaxed beneath the tuxedo, tulle skirt, or fancy flowered collar. Inform your handler to remove the costume if your pet shows distress, and make sure your helper knows to guide your pet away from toxic food or plants.

Lastly, have your pet’s crate nearby so he or she can retreat to it if the festivities become too overwhelming.
